Pupils with the cheque for the Kazi Mingi charity

The Licensed Victuallers’ Junior School in Ascot have raised £3381.80 for the Kazi Mingi charity that helps to build schools in Africa.

The money has been specifically used to build a brand new dormitory and was raised as a result of a variety of activities - a bring and buy sale, a fun run wearing pyjamas and a sponsored swimathon.

However, fundraising hasn’t stopped and an additional £660 has already been counted since the cheque was presented.

Well done everyone!

Leicester Invents Competition Winner
Dixie Grammar School Pupil wins award

A student at The Dixie Grammar School is celebrating winning ‘Leicester Invents’, a competition organised by the University of Leicester, to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Students from all over the country aged between 5 and 16 entered inventions and Dixie were delighted when they were told that one of their students had beaten over 500 other entries in her age group to become the Overall Winner of the competition.

Her entry of an automatic hand washing apparatus to be used on doors in hospital wards, operating theatres etc was described by the judges as an imaginative solution to an important problem, offering a realistic prospect of improving health.

Congratulations !
