Emily’s Disney Dream
This morning pupils and staff at Our Lady’s Convent School welcomed alumna Emily Dunne into assembly to talk about her experiences on the Walt Disney Cultural Exchange programme in the summer between her second and third year of university.
Emily spoke eloquently about the interview process and her experiences, living, being trained and working as a Cast Member at Walt Disney World in Florida. She described the incredible opportunities she enjoyed on the programme which included training, free access to all the Disney parks and making friends from around the world, as well as attending the Disney University.
Her stirring words and enthusiasm for the programme inspired and entertained the pupils who were keen to find out more and ask her questions.
Emily was one of nearly three thousand applicants for only three hundred jobs. What was clearly apparent was how Emily had taken, in her opinion, a chance by applying to the programme, but her message to the pupils was, “Get out there, take a chance, if I can do this, so can you!”
Emily has now completed her degree in Law at the University of Liverpool and is due to start a 12 month programme working in the UK pavilion at Disney’s Epcot where she will gain more valuable life and management work experience.
Speaking after the assembly, Dr Julian Murphy, Headmaster said, “Past pupils often keep in touch with the School and let us know how they are getting on in the world of work. We are keen to encourage and, always delighted to, welcome them back to share their experiences and motivate our younger pupils to aspire for more in life. I would encourage anyone who has a specific dream to let us know, we will work with them to help them achieve it.”
