Cransley School welcomes Princess Anne and Lady Redmond for opening of new Science and Technology Centre

May was extra memorable for Cransley School in Great Budworth, Cheshire, as it marked the opening of their new Science and Technology Centre, kindly commemorated by a visit from Princess Anne, Lady Redmond and the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire.

Princess Anne arrived to quite the welcoming party – rain could not stop students and staff alike from cheering and waving flags as she landed in a helicopter on the school’s Sports field. In true Cransley fashion the Royal visitor was warmly received by Head pupils, Grace and Jane, and Junior pupils, Orson and Niamh, who presented Princess Anne with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

The Princess Royal was accompanied at Cransley by the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Redmond and her husband Sir Philip Redmond.

Whilst Princess Anne unfortunately had to depart, Lady Redmond spent the remainder of the day at Cransley, taking the opportunity to formally open the school’s new Science and Technology Centre, which will accommodate three new Science laboratories, a Design and Technology studio and a Food Nutrition room.

This development has been prepared for years and reflects the changing essential and relevant skills that young people will need to take into the wider world, especially if they choose to follow a technology-based career path.

These facilities will allow boys, and particularly girls, to apply themselves – creatively, personally and academically — to a task, to provide tangible outcomes to their objectives and to gain the confidence and self-presentation to continue that drive beyond their time at Cransley.

From a local perspective, the school-led project acknowledges the requirements of the growing manufacturing and technology industries of Warrington and surrounding areas.

The Science and Technology Centre is intended to be innovative learning spaces which will provide the necessary environment for excellent independent learning, research, skills acquisition and development in line with the school’s aims and mission statement.

Richard Pollock, Headmaster at Cransley, was honoured to welcome such esteemed guests to mark a new milestone for the school:

“To have two esteemed guests at Cransley, on one day, has been an honour and a privilege,”

“It has been a delight, not only to provide a safe landing site of the King’s helicopter, but also to extend our hospitality to the Lord Lieutenant, Lady Redmond MBE, as she kindly opened our new Science and Technology centre.”
