British Council International School Award for The Roche School

The Roche School in Wandsworth is delighted to have attained the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in fostering international education. Promoting an international dimension in the curriculum is central to the British Council’s work so that children and young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life and work in today’s globalised world.

The Roche School takes pride in helping their children to feel like global citizens. Their international work includes launching London’s first Spanish Bilingual Stream classes for Reception to Year 2, conducting an annual Languages Week to celebrate the school’s multicultural pupil body that speaks over 25 languages, and performing plays in French.

Hearing that The Roche School had achieved the award, Headteacher Jonny Gilbert was thrilled: “I am delighted that the British Council has given their International Award to The Roche School. It recognises the exceptional education we provide, not only in offering the only Spanish Bilingual Stream in London but also in our integrated approach to nurturing open-minded global citizens with a deep appreciation of other cultures and languages. We will continue to build on this ethos in the coming years.”

Shannon West, Head of UK Schools for the British Council, said: “The Roche School’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition with the British Council International School Award - Foundation Certificate.

We are delighted and proud that The Roche School is committed to developing a whole school approach to embedding and celebrating international work. The dedication from everyone is enriching education and supporting globally aware young people and the development of key skills.”
