Dr Kiran Nijabat

MBBS, BSc, MRCPsych - Director of the Family Wellness Practice

Dr Kiran Nijabat graduated from Guys’, King’s and St.Thomas’ Medical school in 2008 and gained an Intercalated BSc in Management from Imperial Business School. A psychiatrist with a special interest in child and adolescent psychiatry, Kiran is passionate about mental wellness and uses her expertise to educate children, adolescents, their families and professionals through workshops and CPD accredited courses.

Dr Nijabat has developed 6 CPD accredited training courses including Mental wellness for teachers, Mental wellness in children and young people, Building Resilience, neuro-developmental disorders, eating disorders and self- harm/ suicide.

She has received outstanding feedback both nationally and internationally for her work and strives to be at the forefront of mental health education.

David Taransaud

David Taransaud is a UKCP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor, consultant, author, and trainer with over 20-years’ clinical experience working with young people.
 
He is the author of:
-   ‘You Think I’m Evil: practical strategies for working with rebellious and aggressive adolescents’ (Worth Publishing - 2011)
-   ‘I, Monster: positive ways of working with challenging adolescents through understanding the adolescent within us’ (Routledge – 2016)
- ‘Una Storia di Sopravvivenza e di Speranza’ (Fabbrica dei Segni – 2021)
 
Taransaud also works as a foreign consultant with ‘Alleviate Addiction Suffering’ in Karachi (Pakistan) and travelled to Kitgum (Uganda) where he set up an Art Therapy service in an orphanage for former child soldiers and young people affected by conflict and trauma. His travel journal, ‘Kitgum’s Orphans; Invisible Wounds’ was entered in the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA 2013). An international documentary and educational impact media award honoring members in the independent film and global humanitarian industry.

William Wadsworth

William Wadsworth is a memory psychologist (Cambridge University, First Class) who empowers students to learn smarter – not necessarily harder! – using the science of effective learning. His obsession with academic success began early (10 A*s at GCSE and 6 As at A level), and has since led him to become a respected independent researcher (Revision Census 2020 / 2022), speaker and study skills trainer for leading schools across the UK, and even technology pioneer, as the brains behind the game-changing memory consolidation app Memlock. William also hosts the award-nominated Exam Study Expert podcast and blog (https://examstudyexpert.com), which are trusted by over a million readers and listeners worldwide every year.

Hilary Thomson

Hilary Thomson (B.A/PGCE) – Founder of The Ministry Of Imagination 

Project manager, educational materials designer, teacher trainer, drama lecturer, theatre director, business trainer.

Hilary is currently teaching part time on the B.A Hons Drama Degree at the university of East Anglia and working as an arts in education specialist with her creative team from The Ministry Of Imagination. ‘We put the magic into learning’ says Hilary. “Over many years I have developed a system of creative processes that unlock people’s potential and take them on a journey of personal development to find their own unique path in life and their own story.” It is this experience and expertise that Hilary brings to the conference.

Barry Huggett

 

Barry Huggett OBE was Headmaster of More House School for 22 years and is now Principal of the More House Foundation, giving support to schools and parents and working to open other SEND schools and departments in the UK and abroad.

Claire Walker

Claire Walker is the Headteacher of Lumiar UK, a progressive primary school for 42 children where we are reimagining education.

As Headteacher and Director of Education, she is responsible for both the operational running of the school and creating an exciting, inspiring, and genuinely progressive education for our students.

She is passionate about transforming education and rethinking our current education system. After working in mainstream education for 13 years, she started to struggle in a system focused on testing, with a narrow, prescribed curriculum and no room or time to follow the students' interests or need for creativity.

Lumiar UK aims to create an environment where children are free to learn, where young people feel engaged and empowered, where curiosity is celebrated and where asking difficult questions is encouraged.

Sophia Smith Galer

Sophia Smith Galer is a multi-award-winning reporter, author and TikTok creator based in London – making content for over 400,000 followers around the world. Her videos have been seen over 75 million times.

Sophia began her career at the BBC, working as a social media producer and then religion reporter, where she reported on the complexities of contemporary faith across the BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4 and BBC World News.

Her pioneering use of TikTok as a newsgathering and publishing tool has won her recognition in the industry as a journalism innovator, winning ‘Innovation of the Year’ at the British Journalism Awards as well as a spot on this year’s Forbes 30 under 30 list. She has just been named as one of Vogue’s 25 Most Influential Women in Britain list in 2022.

She is now a Senior News Reporter at VICE World News covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa and is the author of Losing It: Sex Education for the 21st Century, published this year by Harper Collins.

Sophia is HEFAT trained and is also accredited to deliver Relationships and Sex Education from acet UK.
